Hi everybody,
How are things? woodsy O’Connell here from the Outdoor Pursuits Club (OPC) in the University of Limerick. The club and I are organising a hike up Carrantouhill in drag for the Irish Cancer Society (ICS). Our aim is to promote the sport, have a great day out, meet different people within the sport but most importantly, raise some much needed funds for the ICS.
Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti there has been huge amounts of charity work done to aid them in their rebuilding. However, this has unfortunately adversely affected our local charities. We are taking it upon ourselves to attempt to help them with their revenue problems. We are heading to Kerry to do the hike in drag on Sunday, March 21st. As is customary in the OPC we welcome absolutely everyone who wants to participate to join us on the climb up Ireland’s highest mountain. Therefore, consider this an invitation to you and your club to come and join us on the hike.
We are all well aware of the image set by minorities of students and the general view of the public towards students. Personally, I feel aggrieved by this view. So, I would love to be able to show the country the power that is possessed by college clubs and our willingness to use our skills for the good of those who really need it. It would be the biggest advertisement of the sport outside of Reek Sunday on Croagh Patrick. It would also be the biggest advertisement of the good that is in each of our clubs if everybody got involved.
I would love to see this idea acted on by as many of you as possible. I would ask you to give it some thought, pose it to your various committees and see if ye can manage to join us. There is no obligation to do it in drag but come along for the craic and banter with other colleges and clubs.
All you need to know: We will climb Carrantouhill on March 21st in drag for the benefit of the Irish Cancer Society from 8.00am. Any enquiries should be made to myself at woodsy@ulopc.com .
Cheers,
woodsy
