Hey all, I was talking to Tony Ryan recently about doing some outdoor rockclimbing during the summer. There are two options available either in the Burren or a Quarry just outside limerick. The quarry is very close and we will have the entire club climbing gear back in limerick soon. Tony offered to set up some routes.. We can go to the quarry in the evenings for an hour or two as the days are long and transport is available during the week. If people want to go to the Burren something else could be arranged If you would like to go Climbing during the summer (if rain and no sun constitutes Summer ) please post your contact details or express your interest here so we can let you know what’s going on..Spread the word.. Mise le Meas Cillian ;D 0879658473 0450081@student.ul.ie P.S. our first evening caving trip is on Tuesday the 17th July.. please reply to the Caving Post if you want to join the next Caving trip- beginners welcome

OK no surprises there so
Knockroe (nr Caherconlish) is a natural dolerite outcrop about 30 mins drive from the centre of Lmk, it's OK, 9 routes about 8-11 M's high.

Another option for climbing around Limerick is the small quarry out at Holycross which Nigel bolted a line on a good few years ago. It is just one line but would be a great little summer project. Myself and John Harrison were the first to work out all the moves. I think the climbing is around 6b+ french but hard to say as well.
Directions are like so: From UL drive to the Parkway shopping centre roundabout and turn left towards the Tiperary road roundabout. Go straight through the Tipperary road roundabout and then onto the Kilmallock roundabout were you turn left towards Ballyneety and Loch Gur. Follow this road through Drumbanna and then Ballyneety and the whole way out the Holycross. At Holycross go straight through the cross roads and then turn left at left turn after the crossroads. Follow this road for about 2 miles were you will see the small quarry on your left hand side. On this road you will pass the quarry high on your left and the road will then come to a Y junction were a lefthand turn will allow you to double back on yourself and get to quarry.
The route is on the main clean face were you park in front of the quarry. It has 5 bolts with two at the top for a lower off. I think when I was there last we had a rope set to extend the lower off. Do not lower from this rope cos it has been in the weather and therefore should be replaced (or replace with chains if you want)
The climbing is technical and high addictive. I can probably help with the sequence detail or talk to Harr cos both of us had then learn off when we were doing it!!!
Would be nice to see someone else enjoy the climbing!!! All is good here in Canada and going hard at big multipitch and alpine stuff here!!!
Chat later Frank
