Hi everyone,
I'm putting this post up here to give you plenty of time to make sure you can get time off work or just be free on the weekend of the 7th/8th June for the Alps training.
Here's the plan:
Saturday 7th June: Leave UL at 6:30am and head straight down to Carrauntoohill (stopping for food in Killarney). Hike up to the Emergency Shelter just below the Heavenly Gates and leave unnecessary gear there until we get back that evening. Split the group into two. One group will climb Howling Ridge, the other will climb Curved Gulley Ridge (both are quite similar in difficulty), this will take all Saturday. We will all meet back at the Emergency Shelter where we will set up camp for the night.
Sunday 8th June: Get up early and break camp. Hike (with full rucksacks) the majority of the Ridge walk, from the side of Carrauntoohill to Kate Kearney's Cottage. Eat, Drink and go home.
What you'll need yourself (that you must provide): Decent rucksack (~45L). Good sleeping bag. Raingear. Thermals. Semi-Rigid Boots. Bivvy Bag. Water. Food for the days and breakfast for Sunday.
What you'll need yourself (that the club can provide): Harness. Headtorch. Helmet.
What will be split between the group: Stoves. Tents. Ropes. Climbing Rack. Food for Saturday night.
If you have any questions about this weekend please ask them here or email me keith[at]ulopc[dot]com.

I might have some problems getting the weekend off. I am on my lunch now, and waiting to here back, I could be entering the begging and pleaing stage soon enough (of course without letting them know i need an additional 3 weeks off for the alps)

Hey, I'm heading down to killarney friday evening and I'm taking the van so if you want me to collect some of the gear thursday or friday to take down that wont be a problem or if anyone wants a lift down on friday that's grand also, I can take one!
