Hey lads!
Welcome back! It’s a brand new semester and after endless weeks of freedom, many of you may fear the doom and gloom of assignments, labs and lectures. But fear not! The Outdoor Pursuits Club has some action-packed weeks ahead, which will help you put things in perspective. From venturing through dark caves to orienteering through dense forests; from sport rock climbing to indoor climbing intervarsities; from winter mountaineering in Scotland to hill walking trips around Ireland….
Sound good? Well here’s what we’ve got planned for WEEK 1. Listen up!!!
SIGNING UP NEW MEMBERS: If you’re reading this, chances are you have already signed up with us last semester. However, it would be great if you could spread the word to all your friends, in particular any newcomers to UL. Also, if you are a former member and wish to renew your membership, we would like to see you there. The sign-up will take place this Wednesday 30th from 10am at our OPC stand in the Red Raisins Main Canteen.
TRIP TO SCOTLAND: We will be giving a short presentation and taking names and deposits for our Annual Trip to Scotland this Wednesday 30th at 7.30pm at the PESS Building in Room P1001. The total cost of the trip will be around €200-€250; we will require a deposit of €50 in order to secure your place. Places are limited to 19 people. This year, it will take place during the Easter break from March 14th to 24th; the focus of this trip will be an introduction to winter mountaineering. For further details, please see our website www.ulopc.com. All queries and questions will be answered on Wednesday. Please join us in Java’s afterwards for a ‘friendly’ hot chocolate.
1ST TRIP OF THE SEMESTER: A hill walking trip is planned to Mangerton in Co. Kerry on Sunday 3rd February. There will be a sign-up sheet in the Main Canteen from Wednesday morning. We will leave as usual from the Stables Arch at 9am. The cost is €8 to be paid on the bus. And a reminder: No hiking boots and you’ll be left behind!! We’re serious!! Sensible clothes will be required as usual – rain jacket, fleece, waterproof pants, hat, gloves, packed lunch…need I go on??
Finally, just to let you know, the climbing wall will be open as normal this week: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7-10pm so hope to see you all down there.
That’s about it for this week, lads. Hope to see ye all at some stage during the week.
Best Wishes
