Hi All,
I am going over to the US at the end of next week and on my purchase list is a tent for myself..
i have been considering a 2/3 man performance tent... i.e. comfortable for two and can fit three at a push...
Anyone have any brand and model recommendations? the north face or what... i may have to order it on line and get it sent to an american address so i can bring it home...

Hey Cillian.
There are a load of really good tent manufacturers around especially in the states. The north face do a bomb proof tent the Mountain 25 for mountain and expedition use, one of the best around. or the road Runner a lighter backpacking tent, perfect for irish conditions and more.
Marmot do a tent called the Thor very much similar to the MTN25, nice and light for its strength and well kitted out on the inside with neet pockets. also the Swallow is a really nice backpacking tent, the difference is usually living space is improved while the tent is not quite as strong an exped tent to save weight.
Mountain hardwear are another top of the range tent manufacturer. with the Trang 2 exped tent and the Taurine2 or 3 backpacking tent.
there is also Black Diomand and Msr both make top of the range tents, Msr do cater a bit better for backpacking and touring, some of their tents will accomodate a bike in the porch.
all of the mentioned companies make really good tents to the highest standards but there are shops like REI that do tents similar but allot cheaper, they may not be as light or exactly the same quality but very similar, definitly worth a look if budget is a concern.
hope this helps Harr

I ended up buying a Marmot Limelight3P when i was away ... of the ones i looked at and assembled it worked out as being the best.. very easy to assembly and also to take down great quality and a light and easy to transport tent.
the mutha Hubba was a little more complicated to assemble ( not the type you would try in the dark for the first time) and very big in comparisson ( internal spacewise)
the Marmot will still fit three comfortably and even four at a push i think... very easy and intuitive to assemble ...
i think its a nice tent
