So lads, howsa going?
Well done to the guys who went to the IBL's over the weekend and completed the First Aid course. It was great to see that many people getting their first aid up to date and that its held in high regard. For those of you that might have wanted to do it but couldn't the kayakers generally hold one in semester 2 and have some spaces so I will let you know about and we can sort something if there are people to do it.
THE CLIMBING WALL
Unfortunately we had to close the wall last night guys. I am very sorry that nobody was told but we had very little time to deal with it ourselves. A flood warning was given out by the ESB at 5pm saying that a dam in Parteen would be opened causing flooding in the PESS buliding and our wall. So unfortunately we spent the time taking all the gear out from the climbing wall and putting mats up so they wouldn't get wet. So for the rest of the week, those of you who are thinking of heading to the climbing wall it will be closed tonight. We will try to get it open Thursday and Monday but be aware that it quite possibly could be closed when ye get there. Keep an eye on our message board where there will be regular updates. opc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk1&action=display&thread=1436 . Its not ideal and I'm sorry to those of you who are missing out but they are currently pumping water out of the basement of the PESS. Regardless, the climbing wall will close until January and Semester 2 after Monday because of exams and what not.
On a sidenote I would tell those of you who walk to college from Kilmurry in the morning (not me, ever) not to go by the PESS building as the stream that runs by it has burst its banks and is taking up part of the road. Any cars, make sure they are on higher ground, I would suggest the €3 euro car park in front of the stables archway. Lads, be careful and clever, its not going to be a tsunami but use your brains. If anybody has questions or is in any difficulty don't be afraid to email me or one of the lads for advice. woodsy@ulopc.com
Caving
What with the weather being so shite caving has also had a shadow of doubt cast over it. The caves could quite possibly be flooded but local hero Cillian will be monitoring the situation and if he isn't happy with water levels there might not be a caving trip this week. You will also have to keep an eye on the message board for info on this.

Those of you who have not gotten to go on a caving trip so far and still want to, you need to email Cillian pronto. cillian@ulopc.com The last trip is next week and we wouldn't like any tears so get up, get out and get caving.
Training
With the wall possibly being closed and trips maybe not happening why not come down to learn some rope techniques of caving? SRT procedures will be perfected this Thursday in P1004 at 7pm. Those thinking of coming you should print the SRT procedure sheet and bring it with you on the night. You can get this off the board opc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=cavin&action=display&thread=142 .
Following, there will be some orienteering training going on with my good friend Jerome. This will be at 8pm in the same. A night navigation route will be set up from the PESS buliding again. Depending on the day we will go ahead with the fun run around campus.
The evening runs will be shelved for this semester because of flooding. Many of the routes we would take are flooded and I would ask everyone to stay away from the river walk until all flooding has cleared because this is flooded and with the dam opening it could become quite dangerous.
NIALL SAVING THE WORLD
So many of you will know my friend Niall, of harvard close and buckfast fame, right? Well what you may not know is Niall will be going to Uganda for 8 months from January, teaching english, saving lives and rewriting history. Today in the courtyard he will be selling raffle tickets in the farmers market for Ugandan and African charities and could really do with some help? If you are around campus this week, call up. Buy a raffle ticket, have a chat and you could be part of this saving lives craic. If you can't make it and want to help, email me, woodsy@ulopc.com . He is doing it completely off his own back and has put in a huge effort so maybe we can give him some help? Please try, He who shall not be named knows he'd do it for anyone else without having to be asked.
If anyone has any queries about anything going on, drop me a line.. woodsy@ulpoc.com
Apart from that, be good be careful and be at the christmas days (which renders the first two pointless)
