Hey lads as you can read by the title i'm going for my mountain skills assessment. I did the training back when i was in first year but never bothered getting round to doing my training, big mistake on my part. I neve realised how handy it might turn out to be. well now i have to have it to get into mountain rescue so i'm just wondering if anyone wants to do it with me. Once you have the training you only have to log like 15 group walks which is no bother taking groups out at weekends with the OPC. The committe should be delighted that ye are getting trained up and if funds available they should be subsidising ye by 25% for doing the assessment.
I'm was talking to Bren Whelan and he is free the 20th/21st of March but if we get three/four of us together one weekend we could do it with darach(the guide in scotland)
Shor let me know what ye think??

good man paul. you need a log book to do this and you need to be registered with the MCI. Membership costs around €30.
Just ring them up 01-6251115 and they will send a log book down to you once you are a member with the MCI which you can also sort out when you ring up

I was thinking while I am in Dublin during the week, I might as well get a bit of night naving pratice in for the mountain skills assessment and woodsy has kindly volunteered to come with me. Can anyone suggest any good spots/ routes in the Dublin mountains to practice? Wicklow mountains are too far to travel for me during the week due to lack of a car up here.

Just thought I would clarify for the MS Assessment they don't have to be group walks. It can just be yourself on the hills or even just you and 1 or 2 people. Does not have to be a large group as that is not what you get the training for. So don't think you have to have had groups to log some walks ;-)
On another side of things guys, we'll need to find out exactly who would be considering doing it for numbers and costs as you already mentioned gahan.
We already took on a few extra people for REC that we would have normally as far as I know. Need to make sure we have the money.
As well, if that is the weekend woodsy is planning on the charity weekend I really want as many people there as possible too.

Darach said he would be delighted to do it. Yeah those dates in march don't suit me either so i was thinking the last weekend in March so the 27/28th March.
So its one instructor to four participants. From this message board i am going to take the four names that already asked for it so thats paul, darragh, aislinn and myself. If anyone drops out i will be more than glad to accomadate ye. Just show your interest here and i will put ye on a waiting list. If there is another say three/four people interested i will have no problem in getting another guide.
Ginge i'm guessing its €180 per person but i will get back to you with a definate figure.
So to the three amigos, let me know if that weekend suits or does not suit by text to 0860676136.

I am good for all weekends in March so pick which weekend suits lads and let me know.
I am heading caving this weekend in Fermanagh but I am free the following weekend, I know there might is a provisional trip to torc on the sunday, but does anyone fancy doing a harder hike on the saturday round Killarney?

i know there will still be interest in it so maybe those who want to go fro it join Jihad on his hikes maybe and we can organise a 2nd one. from the looks of it theres myself ferghal andrew up for it anyway so thats 3 out of a possible 4.. plenty people about who could fill that spot.. there wouldnt be subsidisation though i wouldnt think so its up to ye if ye really wanna do it.. im thinking closer to the summer after exams.. no rush with it just yet but id like to do ms assessment and spa over the summer
