Hey all just want to add another suggestion there was talk before that the club was going to try and build up a book and video library collection of its own that its members could then borrow and watch in their own time...Now i just wanna bring up a part of this point...I think the book section would be very invaluable indeed and that each year the new first years would be able to read up ion the books and get a fair idea of waht climbing is about if they wanted... Anyway myself and Frank are after buying another climbing DVD together. Since this is the 3rd one bought (Touching the Void, TV Mountain DVD and now cold haul (in today) I was just wondering what would be the chances of the club buying the DVD's off us and stocking up on a library of these to show new people and get people interested at the start of the year. Most people are getting to see these anyway although we are footing the bill so why shouldn't the club have to pay for them if it is for the benefit of the club??? As expected the committee would have to agree on which DVD's and books to buy before hand and not just giving people money for books and videos that people want What do ye think ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) liamo

ya it's not very ethical that you should have to pay, while evryone else gets it for free.

instead of buying the dvds of ye now that ye have seen them maybe some one could simply make a copy of the dvds you have and keep them in safe stroage at the wall for others to watch. then you get to keep the originals and if the copy at the wall gets damaged just make a copy from the originals you have?
that way if everyone with climbing dvds, videos, books and guides brought them together, made the appropiated coppies as "back up" to the originals, im sure the club would amass a nice quantity of books guides and vids at a relatively small cost.
obviously the books or coppies of books would not leave the grounds of the college and if someone wished to make a coppy of a particular section or indeed the whole thing they could do so easily and leave the original back in the locker!
what do you think any other suggestions?

No Harrison you are bang on with your assumption that I just want the club to buy DVD's that I can watch. I was waitin for that reply to come at some stage.
Really like the idea of copying the stuff but I can't see too many people going copying 400 pages of books to put in a club library maybe i am wrong though. Good idea though
Doyler has a DVD copier and that would not be as hard to do so maybe we could start there and get them copied and then maybe someone with a lot of free time can start on d books....By the way does everyone know that there are mountaincraft and leadership books in the library that you can all take out and read...very good books and will teach you all you need to know

i think it was my idea for the club to invest in some books espicially guides for the locker. onless the books are managed like a library would, they'll walk. so i see no alternative other than making the rule that they dont leave the grounds of the college. books can be bought direct from www.cordee.com they have a really good selection of books and videos only thing is its in england and prices are in sterling are there any other book and vid suppliers not in the uk that deliver to ireland? where id ye your dvds from (liam/frank)?

if your going to buy dvds, why not ask empire music if they would order in what you want (perhaps at a discount if you ask nicely)
