Mountaineers and mountaineeresses,
How are we all? Recovered? I think not.. A huge congratulations to everyone involved in the weekends hike up Ireland's tallest mountain, Carrauntouhill. I think we would all agree that it was possibly the best day we have had on the hills together this year and a fantastic weekend in general, such great stuff. The man who made it all happen, Paul Lowndes, take a bow. That weekend was a huge credit to you, leaders and hikers alike we owe you alot and thanks a million..
So is it all over and done with for this year?
Scotland Talk
Hell no!! This week is the beginning of something great.. The Scotland Adventure!! We are going to present our scotland trip to anyone who has even thought about going or just wants to see how cool the OPC is. It will take place in P1001 at 7.30 pm this Thursday. Its definitely no to be missed. If climbing, mountaineering, ice axes, Ben Nevis, learning more tricks of the trade, wild nights and incredible amounts of fun and frolicks are your thing, you will want to know about Scotland. Get yourself to the talk on Thursday. That's 7.30pm in P1001, for those of you who don't know just call down to the climbing wall 5 minutes beforehand and we will show you exactly where you should be. Afterwards, we will go to the scholars for a pint and a chat. This is open to anyone, even those who cant make the talk, feel free to meet us in scolars at 9.30pm approx.
Recue Emergency Care Level 3
Now we all know our own form of CPR and the Heimlich, but this, my friends, is the real deal. I, your trusted training officer, have organised a first aid course specifically for you to do this coming weekend. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the boathouse you will learn how to splint broken legs, arms and the rest, how to react to different scenarios if you are first on the scene, dealing with diabetes, angina, hypothermia, heart attacks and more if you need to. First aid is a life skill, it is sometimes life or death. It makes the difference if you don't have it you can't save a persons life so I would encourage everyone who doesn't have it to drop me an email and at least enquire about it. training@ulopc.com is my email. i have a very limited amount of spaces left so get back to me as quick as possible. the cost will be €160 but may be decresed depending on a number of things. A ridiculous low price for the best 3 day first aid course you can do in Britain and Ireland.
Midweek Caving
For all of you yet to get on a caving trip and still want to, I would email Cillian very soon as the midweek trips are fast running out. Superlegend Conor is taking a trip this wednesday to the burren, boathouse 5pm, those of you going will already know who you are. Bring a spare change of clothes and of course rubber gloves. Definitely email Cillian at cillian@ulopc.com if you want to be on a trip before the end of the year because we don't want any dissapointments.
Training
For all you sponges, the unfortunate news is that Thursday's orienteering training will not be happening due to the Scotland talk. Thursday 7.30pm P1001 people!!!!!!!!! Caving training at 7pm is provisionally going ahead but is very much subject to change so keep an eye on the club message board for details on that. SRT will be happening though
However, all the future hopes for supervising duties at the wall will be expected to be at at the wall for 7.30pm this evening, Tuesday.. Thats the supervisor course will begin tonight at 7.30 pm at the wall anyone interested call down? You will learn a thing or two..

The climbing wall remains open for at least another while before the supervisors realise the exams are coming up. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 7-10pm, drop in if your passing, call down even if you're a first timer, everyone is welcome. Kiddies nights, Wednesday 7 - 9 are a great way for your child to get a bit of exercise that won't lead to a mountain of washing, a runny nose or a parental headache. Anyone with kids, bring em down.
