Myself, harr and maybe one or two others are considering buying a beastmaker (epic fingerboard) for the wall. www.beastmaker.co.uk/products1.htmI've had the advanced one since christmas and despite rarely using it due to injury I can now hang monos with ring or middle fingers. Is anyone else interesting in getting involved in this little venture? If theres enough interest it may be possible to buy one of each (beginner/advanced). Anyone wishing to use them in future years could be asked to donate a tenner which could go towards further improvments.

€5 to use the wall for the year, yet €10 to use a fingerboard?

What's the benefit of one of these over, oh say a climbing wall?
Isn't this more something you have at home to train when you can't go to the wall or the crag?

no its something you can use during a wall session. its far more effective at building finger strength.

i think it would be an extremely good asset to the wall... developing finger strength is a must and something id love to have at the wall as well..

Guys, believe it or not the club actually has money to buy stuff... There is no need for one or two members to come together and buy something for the wall.
Improving the wall is something that we want to see happen this year.
The club can buy some of these before the start of the semester if ye like, im just wondering where they can be put. At the overhang where the "campus board" is?
Just to add, if there is anything else ye would like to see at the wall, or anything changed at the wall, post it here so it can be discussed.

Would need to be placed on a fairly flat wall I'd say, they usually have slopey hold that could be completely useless at a 20degree incline. Would also need room to dangle the legs as well I'd imagine so against a wall wouldn't be great either...
Over the door is one possibility, though has some obvious problems blocking the entrance/exit, although people do already hang off the door frame for training already.
Also on the lower part of the "roof" like part between the top rope and red wall, although that'd be pretty low down.
Unless they can be places on a flat section built on top of the yellow or blue overhand...
Just suggestions.

between the blue overhang and the new section over the window you could place one there with a plank going from one wall to the next. or have it moveable(hang it from the top of an overhang) like Colm does with his one

Tonys suggestion to make a mount for it between the two walls is what I was thinking. Cant really have people hanging in the doorway for long periods of time and cant mount it over the roof as people would stand on it which is not ideal. I'm sure harr could whip together a stand for it as he's very keen to have something like this for training.
Darragh, that sounds great. Beastmakers are definately one of the best fingerboards available. Do you think ye could swing for two (beginner and advanced) to cater for everyone? I'd be able print out some sheets on how to use em and such and have em hung above the boards

Ya we can more than likely get two of the fingerboards. The print outs and stuff to use them would be great aswell, we can get them laminated and maybe put them up around it.
Just one thing, does a persons height affect the usefulness of it? Say we put it up at one fixed height, say Tony's height, would a smaller person such as me be able to get much benefit out of it and vice versa?
Maybe something that would allow us to alter the height of it could be made..?

ha ha no height isnt an issue really. they're mounted at door frame ish height. If you were really a total midgit I guess you could pull a matt under to reach it

"Isn't this more something you have at home to train when you can't go to the wall or the crag?" Yes and no, they are not cheap so having one at the wall would make it accessible to everyone, I have a finger board and a small wall at home but I go to the UL wall three nights a week so it would be great to integrate it into my training while I am there.
"does a persons height affect the usefulness of it”? No not at all, if you’re tall lift your legs if your small stand on a bouldering pad or use the box you normally carry around with you.
"im just wondering where they can be put" If we can get started on the campus board it could easily be integrated into that, making a training specific corner beside the slab.

Great news guys, the beastmakers arrived today.
The timber for the campus board is being ordered so the campus board will be started next week.
In the meantime, we could put one of them up temporarily. Davis is sorting that out so if you have any opinions or want to help out, contact him

probaby no harm in waiting a week until the necessary instruction/warnings have been printed up and laminated
