Hey All,
Just wondering something...I know there are a lot of forums on the go at the moment and I don't know if the committee want another one but I decided I would throw this out there anyway and see what people thought.
Last year I completed about 5 adventure races around Ireland and this year I hope to complete about 10-15 more. Adventure Racing is basically hill-walking/running, mountain-biking, kayaking and then extra speciality events like canyoneering, orienteering etc. are added to different races. They are great craic and a modest level of fitness is all is required.
Anyway I was wondering if the committee would like to add a separate forum board to the message board so that links could be put up for different races around the country and people could see what it was all about.
Adventure Racing is a follow on from hill-walking and other OPC activities and there a few golden oldies of the OPC that have dabbled into the sport so maybe a few of ye might be interested and maybe some of the older crowd might be able to provide lifts to the poor impoverished students!!!
This might also be a good point for the S.U. come next year as you could tell them a new section of the club has started up...
Anyways happy new year to one and all and best of luck with the exam results

a little information never hurt anyone i don't know if adventure racing needs to be a recognised part of the club but i can't see any harm in putting up information on events and training on the forum. if people are interested at least they have access to the information to get them started. i wouldn't mind having a go at it myself. i don't mind a bit of running/ climbing/ abseiling/cycling/orienteering. paddling/swimming might be an issue as i'm not the biggest fan of water sure if anyone knows of any beginners events put it up on the message board or let me know. in terms of dates, i was talking to avril copeland from adventure racing ireland before christmas and their website won't be up and running for a little while yet. in the meantime you can look at the calender on this website (note: it includes international events) www.sleepmonsters.ie/index.phptheres also good general info on this website www.racingwithgiants.com/NonFramesSite/Intro%20to%20AR.html

it sounds pretty cool. the kerry orienteering club are holding the orienteering stage (first stage i think) of the adventure challenge this yr so we mite be down helping them out n heading out for a run on the course after. they said that the orienteering stage is pretty straight forward map reading and orienteering but it is advised that you know whats involved in orienteering and how to read a map b4 u head off. just read about this link on the irish o-forum www.sleepmonsters.ie
