We've had a lower than expected number of applicants for this year's MCI Youth Winter Skills Programme, which is a shame when you think of the quality of the course that's on offer and the feedback we've had from participants in previous years.
Enclosed is the advertisement and application form for the course. If you can think of any keen young mountaineers (aged 17 - 25) who'd benefit from this please encourage them to apply. Deadline has passed but an application over the next 2-3 days would still be considered for the remaining places.
Thanks!
Helen

Scottish Winter Skills Week,
4th –10th March 2007
It’s autumn again and we are once again looking forward to winter and to the Scottish Winter Skills week.
Last year’s trip was a big success, with 12 young mountaineers travelling enjoying good snow and ice conditions in the cairngorms.
This programme aims to provide young people with an opportunity to learn the skills necessary to handle Scottish Winter conditions, under the supervision of experienced instructors and mountaineers. This includes navigation skills, avalanche awareness and emergency shelter building as well as winter walking and ice-climbing, if conditions permit.
Candidates should be aged 17-25, and have a good level of fitness. Climbing/ winter walking experience would be an advantage, but selection is also based on qualities such as enthusiasm and ability to work as a team, so don’t let limited experience prevent you from applying!
Once we have received your form we may invite you to Tollymore mountain centre, Co. Down for a training and selection weekend, on the 5th-7th January 2007 (Cost £65/€100). This weekend is a valuable learning experience and provides an introduction to navigation and rope work skills. If you are successful, you may be chosen to participate in the trip to Aviemore, in the Cairngorm Mountains.
If you are interested in applying for the winter skills programme this year please contact MCI Youth Development officer, by emailing: youngmci@yahoo.co.uk, or tel. (0044) 07840883067
